Washington State Reviews PTSD Claims Policy for First Responders

A study related to PTSD claims among law enforcement officers and firefighters has been completed and formally delivered to the Washington State Legislature. This study was conducted in response to a 2024 directive from the Legislature, which called for an independent review of the current system for PTSD-related workers’ compensation claims. The goal was to assess how effectively existing policies are serving those impacted by duty-related trauma and to explore potential improvements. The final report includes data analysis, stakeholder input, and policy recommendations that could impact how PTSD claims are handled in the future.
